Solar Energy Production Warranty

25 Year Production Warranty

Solar panels have a production warranty of 25 years.

Solar panels don't stop working after the 25-year production warranty period, but their efficiency does decrease over time.

The 25-year warranty guarantees a certain level of performance, often around 80-85% of the panel's original output by the end of the 25-year production warranty period.

Solar Panels in the first 25 Years

  • Typical Degradation Rate: Most solar panels degrade at a rate of about 0.5% per year.
  • Warranty Efficiency: Assuming a 0.5% degradation per year, a solar panel would operate at or above 85% of its original capacity in 25 years from now.
  • Example: If a panel produces less than 85% in 1 year (or in year 24), the panel is replaced at no cost to you.

Lifespan Beyond 25 Years

  • Typical Degradation Rate: Most solar panels degrade at a rate of about 0.5% per year.
  • Post-Warranty Efficiency: Assuming the same 0.5% degradation rate, a solar panel would operate around 80% of its original capacity in 35 to 40 years from now, and potentially longer.

Practical Considerations

  • Maintenance and Repairs: Regular monitoring and maintenance can help extend the lifespan of solar panels.
  • Economic Viability: While panels may last longer than 30 to 40 years, the decision to replace them might also depend on advances in technology and the cost-benefit analysis of newer, more efficient panels.

In Summary

  • 25 Years or Less: Solar panels can last and continue to be productive well beyond the 25-year warranty period.
  • 25 Years or More: Solar panels can last 35 to 40 years, if not longer, with the proper monitoring and maintenance.
